Our tour guide Bridget took us to 6 places, all of which were fun, unique, and really good at what they do! We started at Wind Gap, a small local winery (did I mention that everything at the stops is local?) where we had 3 tastes accompanied by a small platter of cheese, chorizo, almonds and crackers. The Food Crush Tour in Sebastopol is a great tour of The Barlow, formerly an industrial area and now a really hopping downtown with lots of food, wine, and other shops. I love food tours, they are a great way to see a new place. Finally, a brownie bite at Village Bakery to finish off the day. 5 pours – vodka, gin, whiskey, rye whiskey and sloe gin gave me a real chance to taste the variety of what they distilled. Pretty interesting! and the tasting afterwords was good too. Now that we have a little food in our bellies, we moved on to Spirit Works Distillery to learn about distilling hard spirits. We didn't partake, but it looked like they had a pretty good drink menu also. What better to have here than a BLT made with their "home-cured" bacon! Wow! Oh and the bacon-carmel popcorn. We're off to Zazu, a pork-themed farm to table restaurant. They make and bottle quite a variety of different types and flavors. Yum! Next I guess Bridget felt we needed a pick-me-up so she took over to Guayachi, a brewer of Yerba Mate, a caffeinated tea-like drink from South America. Served with these great fried olives and a greek style salad and a refreshing hard cider. Next it was off to Vignette, a Neapolitan Pizza restaurant for what else… pizza. We started at Wind Gap Winery a tasting of 3 of their excellent wines along with a charcuterie plate of cheese, chorizo, crackers and almonds. Read more below for the specifics of our tour. It was good fun and I would recommend the tour if your in the area. Bridget did warn us that the tours vary depending on the day and time of the tour. And the variety of food and drink were delicious. The mix of venues and pacing were perfect. We hit 6 locations all within a short, easy walk of each other. We were a small group (only 6 of us) + Bridget. The Barlow is an old cannery that has been converted into what is described as a "Makers Marketplace." That means most of the food, drink and wares that are sold there are made there. Bridget did a great job leading the tour. Yesterday afternoon we enjoyed a great food tour of The Barlow in Sebastopol with Bridget of Food Crush Tours.
